Japanese Contemporary Art Magazine
Bijutsu Techo is one of Japan’s foremost publications devoted to art. Since its launch in 1948, the magazine has brought its readers the latest in Japanese and global contemporary art, garnering widespread support among artists, critics, curators, and lovers of art. Its content has ranged from features on prominent Japanese artists like Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara, to areas outside of fine art including fashion, anime and other branches of pop culture. In 2015, the magazine published the first-ever issue of its international edition, Bijutsutecho International. There are many exciting plans in store for 2018, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the magazine’s founding.
Bijutsu Techo has always been about “contemporary art today.” In 2017, the Bijutsu Techo website was set up with the mission of promoting the role of creativity in society, making the most of the trust and the network that the print version has built over the years. The website delivers topical news and information to its readers, aiming to establish a culture of art journalism in Japan that capitalizes on the capacity of online media for adaptivity and up-to-the-minute content.
